The most collectible and eyecatching today are the LED watches of the 70's that can be viewed in my LED gallery. A great part of this site is dedicated to servicing a few of the most collectible LED and jump hour watches, including Pulsar, Bulova Drivers LED watches, Derby Jaz Swissonic Speedometer or the Elgin Golfball jump hour.
For the last few years of collecting watches I always had difficulties with finding information about servicing strange and rare designer wristwatches.
As a collector it is not enough to get a new interesting timepiece for exhibition purposes. From my childhood I remember always trying to disassemble the items that surrounded me. Thus you can imagine that the very first thing that I do upon reception of a watch is to put it into pieces :-)
The hints shown are a result of my own work on these watches as it was truly difficult to find any technical data (manuals) aside tips from other collectors. Despite many collectors worldwide and their wonderful websites with plenty of pictures it was a nightmare to find any technical hints as unfortunately most collectors don't have a clue what makes a watch tick.
Some internet forums proved to be useful however the last resort was to buy a watch and try on my own. On most occasions buying a second or third example helped me get on track, swap parts to perfect ones and thus complete mint or near perfect watches.
This website is the result of my 5 years of collecting and correspondence with collectors worldwide, including
Dennis Klein, the Webmaster of
Oldpulsars, Mr.
John M. Bergey - the coinventor of the Pulsar LED watch, Mr.
Louis Zanoni - the coinventor of the Optel LCD watch and
Howard Riehl - the son of Roger Riehl, inventor of Synchronar, the first solar-powered LED watch.
I have taken big effort to present correct information however if you find any mistakes please let me know. Also take your time to browse my galleries and hints that will surely help you save time and set you on the right track straight from the very beginning.
This website is created by a collector for collectors to use and I hope that you will find it interesting and different from other sites as it is most likely the first ever website showing so many indepth technical details of vintage forgotten spacedesign watches.
When you're done and have found my hints useful, please give me some feedback that will motivate me to keep updating the website and present you with even more helpful information. Enjoy and feel free to mail me if you would have any questions or opinions about Crazywatches.
